DEATH OF ROBERT FRANCIS CLARK

Robert Francis Clark was born in Anson county, N. C, Aug. 27, 1834. He moved from North Carolina to Henry County at the age of six years. He professed faith in Christ at about the age of ten years and joined the M. E. Church, South, at Palestine on the Paris circuit. He moved his family and membership to old Elbethel in 1857 and later selected the plot of land and became one of the charter members of the present church.

He was married to Miss Sarah Margaret Witt, daughter of Rev. John Witt, and sister of the late Rev. John H. Witt, Jr., February, 1854. To this union was born ten children, two of whom died in infancy. The living are T., of Shawne. Okla.; Monroe, Willie, Matt, Nannie, Moses, Bettie, Hutch, who with their aged mother, mourn their irreparable loss. Sixteen grandchildren survive their great-grandsire.

This is the first death in the family for 48 years.

Bro. Clark has not had a physician visit him because of sickness for 64 years and in his last days no symptom of disease could the doctor find just worn out.

In ecclesiastical work, such as Sunday school superintendent, steward and class leader, he was without a peer, but his greatest gift was in singing.

In his early life Bro. Clark sang over the county and for all denominations. He filled his mission as a singer until his very last years, when he went only to his own church.

He retained his mental powers until death claimed him, Wednesday, Oct. 15,. He was 85 years of age. Gone home to glory.

Dresden enterprise and Sharon tribune., October 24, 1919, page 3. Submitted by Michael J. Rea, #47214779.
