Civil War Union Army Soldier. He enlisted in Company H, 44th Pennsylvania Emergency Troops on July 1, 1863, and was mustered in as a Private. The regiment was one of Pennsylvania militia raised to meet the threat of the Confederate invasion during the Gettysburg Campaign, and served until they were honorably discharged on August 27 1863.

He was employed for forty years as agent for the Estey Organ Company of Philadelphia.
