Walter Carew was the manager of the Yokohama United Club. He was murdered by his wife, Edith who poisoned him with arsenic.

Edith was convicted after a trial by jury in the British Court for Japan. She was sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. She served 14 years in jail in England before her release.
