He is survived by his sister and her husband, Mary and Arthur DeCarlo of Ellicott City, Md.; daughter and her husband, Mary Anne and Bobby Singley of Williamsburg; daughter and her husband, Johanna and Sean Bruce of Germantown, Md; daughter Courtney Ann Kerr and her partner Caitlin McHugh of Santa Fe, N.M.; son and his wife, James E. Kerr, V. and Tamara de la Camp of Alexandria; and grandchildren Ashby, Anne Marie, Alexis, Malcolm, and Lachlan.
Jim was an avid reader, who enjoyed traveling, tennis, cooking and gardening, but most of all, time with his family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Allied Occupation of Japan. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1951, and began working for the American Foreign Service, retiring as Consul General in 1986.
The family will receive visitors at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb, 2 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Funeral service begins at 11, with interment immediately following at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
