Floyd Elwin Baker, son of John and Lizzie Gallagher Baker was born Oct. 3, 1909 near Clinton, Mo. He died Saturday, March 21, 1987 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, Kansas at the age of 77 after a lengthy illness.
The family moved to Idana, Ks when he was one year old. He attended Centennial school. In 1924 they moved to Oak Hill, Ks and he was graduated from Longford High School.
He was engaged in farming all his life. He was a member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Supt. of the Sunday School and Sunday School teacher. He was Past Master of the Oak Hill Masonic Lodge and past Patron of the Eastern Star. He took an active part in community affairs until his health failed, serving on Chapman Township board for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald, a brother Lloyd, and a sister Florinne. The survivors are three sisters and a brother, Florence Baker, Oak Hill, Marian Beadleston, Springfield, Mo., Alma Broers and husband Kermit, Eudora, and Ralph Baker and wife Ellen, Olathe. Two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Baker, Beaverton, Or., and Wilma Baker, Tacoma , WA. 12 nieces and nephews and their families.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 25, at the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Henry Senecal officiated.
Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Brumbaugh with congregational singing. Hymns sung were: "Where He Leads Me I Will Follow"
and "Face to Face".
A graveside Masonic service was conducted. Interment was at the Idana Cemetery with Melvin Curtis, Wendell Holt, Merle Sampson, Jerald Curtis, Kenneth Blake and Gaylord Steinbuck serving as pallbearers.
