Edna Virginia Nicum was born on October 28, 1918 in Boone County Indiana, to Myrtle Ann Bland and John Raymond Niccum Sr. Also born to the same parents were Edith Catherine Nicum Anderson and John Raymond Niccum Jr She has 3 half siblings from her mothers previous marriage Richard Alden, Franklin Adrian, and Paul Edwin Muston.
Sometime before 1943 she married Harold Ray Greene and had one son John "Johnny" David Green. She later married Neil Shew on April 11, 1946 in Marion County, Indiana. They remained married until his death in October 1976.
She passed away in June of 1989 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 71 due to cancer. She and Neil are buried together at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Westfield, Hamilton Co, Indiana.
