Elda Marie Lauffer, age 97, a longtime resident of Howard, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Howard Twilight Manor where she had resided for the last 12 years. She was born on December 3, 1915 in Piedmont, Kansas the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Ferry) May. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and received a teaching certificate from Emporia.

Elda taught in a couple of rural schools in Elk County before marrying Carl Lauffer on May 4, 1940 in Independence, Kansas. She cleaned houses, ironed and babysat for many people. She also worked as receptionist for a doctor and also worked at Toot's Drive In. For 18 years Elda worked at the Howard Twilight Manor.

Elda is survived by four sons; Willis Lauffer and Alan Lauffer both of Wichita, Kansas, Terry Lauffer of Tucson, Arizona, Dwight Lauffer of Wildomar, California and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, one brother Dale May and two sisters Lela May and Hazel Dickerson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Countryside – Zimmerman Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery. Family suggests contributions be made to the Howard Twilight Manor and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolence may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.
