VAN ALSTYNE - Services for J.G. Hamner, 80, of Van Alstyne will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Shannon Jackson. Burial will follow in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Friday at Scoggins Funeral Home. Mr. Hamner passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at his residence in Van Alstyne.

He was born Sept. 25, 1932 in Shelby County, Ind. To Bryan and Viola Wigner Hamner. He married Sarah "Sally" Carriker Dec. 24, 1958 in Dallas. He served in the United States Navy from April 1950 to July 1953 then he served in the United States Air Force from January 1955 to November 1958. He worked at Texas Instruments from November 1959 to 1971. Mr. Hamner was also a farmer and rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah "Sally" Hamner; son and his wife, Glenn and Patty Hamner; sisters, Myona Dove Hamner Chyma, Mary Hamner Miller, Rita Hamner Sethman; sister-in-law, Maxine Hamner Mire; grandchildren, Rachel and husband Jeff Newcomb, Jeremy Blake Hamner and wife Kristen, and Brandon Hamner; great-granddaughter, Harlow Ann Newcomb; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Hamner is preceded in death by brothers, Francis, Malcolm "Bud," Billy G., and Robert Hamner; sisters, Fern De Haven and Betty Gregory.
