William Robert Almond, Sr., 85, of Albemarle, went home to heaven to be with his Lord and his loving wife, Zora, on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at CMC- NorthEast.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Tab Whitley and Rev. Shannon Powell, will be at Lakeview Baptist Church on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 4:00 pm. There will be a 30 minute state prior to the service. Burial will follow at Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery.

At other times, the family will meet at his home.

Robert was born on April 5 1927, to the late Ollie Almond and the late Lucy Jane Varner Almond. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Foya Almond; one sister and four brothers.

Mr. Almond is survived by two daughters, Pattie Huneycutt and husband Michael of Albemarle and Doris Shaver and husband Ricky of Albemarle; a son, Bill Almond and wife Anita of Albemarle; a sister, Ruth Jane Page; grandchildren, Miena Powell, Adam Huneycutt, Brandy Almond, Nicole Hartsell, Anya Huneycutt, Jacob Almond, Heather Britt and Makayla Mabry; and six great grandchildren.

A corporal in the US Army, he served in the Korean conflict. He is the last charter member of the MIllingport VFD and was a former chief. A longtime member of the DAV Ritual Team, he also served as a transportation officer. He served as Commander of the American Legion Post 76 for many years.
