Mr. Marvin Henry Sparks, age 78, of 442 Norwood Drive, Danville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Sparks was born on November 19, 1934, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Wheeler D. Sparks and Gracie M. Chandler Sparks.
Mr. Sparks retired from Dan River Inc., worked for Sunbeam Bakery for a number of years and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Tessie Ann Bowling Sparks of the residence; his son, Rodney D. Sparks of Danville; two daughters, Phyllis D. Davis of Wake Forest, NC, and Sandra D. Wright of Danville, VA; his sister, Pauline S. Hyler of Bassett, VA; three grandchildren, Dylan W. Sparks and Sherry L. Burnette, both of Danville, Billy W. Davis of Youngsville, NC; and five great-grandchildren, Evelyn G. Davis, Megan A. Keller, Tony A. Burnette, Payton E. Adams, and David C. Adams.
In addition to his parents Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Sparks; and three sisters, Ruby Goodlake, Marie Burnette, and Virginia Combs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be receiving friends Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 5pm until 7pm at Barker Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Highland Burial Park in Danville.
