Mr. Elmore was a son of the late Fred Woodford Elmore and Mary Lucy Phillips Elmore. He attended school at Mabie and had served as a Rifleman during World War II with the United States Army. He had worked in steel mills for ten years and in the coal mines for twenty-three years. He retired in 1988 from Island Creek Coal Company at Bayard. He was a member of the Coalton Veterans of Foreign Wars, was an avid gardener, loved to sing and play guitar, and was a Methodist by faith.
