Helen Totten Carpenter, 92, of 109 Fairfield St., Fayetteville, died Friday at Community-General Hospital after a brief illness.

A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Mrs. Carpenter lived in Fayetteville over 50 years.

She was an assistant to Dr. Max Rifkin in Syracuse for 25 years. Mrs. Carpenter was a graduate of Sayre High School in Pennsylvania and was a 1924 graduate of Syracuse University where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.

Mrs. Carpenter was a communicant of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse for 54 years. She was a member and treasurer of Kinney Circle at the church. She was a member of the Comfort Tyler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her husband, Louis M. Carpenter, founder of Carpenter Manufacturing in Manlius, died in 1979. She was pre-deceased by a son, Hubert J. Carpenter, died in 1989.

Surviving are three grandchildren, Kenneth Carpenter of Manlius, Thomas Carpenter of Cazenovia and Susan Sorensen of Manlius; a sister, Ruth T. Aiken of Troy, several great-grandchildren and nieces.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville, with the Rev. John Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery
