Gone To Rest
Death of Mrs. George Crawford

There is another name to add to the list of deaths we have given elsewhere in the Tiles today. Mrs. Mary Y Crawford, the wife of George Crawford, the old and well-known furnaceman, passed away Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, from the family residence, , on Eighth Street, after a long and painful illness, in the sixty-fourth year of her age,

The deceased, who was the daughter of C.M. Glidden, was a native of New Hampshre, having been born in Northfield on the 10th of May, 1827. She was wedded to George Crawford in 1849, who was then managing Junior Furnace and she spent her life at that and Clinton Furnace until 1871, since which time they made their home in this city.

Mrs. Crawford was the mother of Dr. J.N.W. Crawford, and Minnie Crawford of this city, and Ex-Mayor George W. Crawford, now of Chicago; and in her death they lose one who proved herself the best of friends--a loving a devoted mother. To her husband, she had been a helpmeet indeed--faithful and conscientious in the discharge of her home duty, and standing by his side during the early and earnest struggles that beset the life of an active furnaceman. But to one like her, beset with afflictions, death came like a sweet and welcome sleep, from which no rude pains can awaken her, nor recall her to her earthly troubles.

The funeral will take place this afternoon, at 1:15 o'clock, from the residence on Ninth street, Rev. H.L. Badger officiating.
