At various times Henry worked as a laborer, carpenter and farmer. He also invested in small tracts of timberland. He lived with his parents until 1858 when he bought some land bordering his father's farm and built a house on it. He and his wife lived there for the rest of their lives.
At 68 years, 6 days Henry died at the youngest age of any of the seventeen children of his parents. In addition to his widow he was survived by sons Calvin, Mark & Charles and daughters Mrs. Emma Royer & Mrs. Alice Royer. Son Shem and daughter Mary died in infancy.
