Samuel Aventer Walters, 87, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Walters was born October 27, 1925 in the Suttons Community of Williamsburg County, a son of the late Samuel James Walters and Letha Estelle Broach Walters.
He grew up in Suttons, graduated from Williamsburg High School, and served in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Walters was a former co-owner of Terminal Oil Company. He was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served his church as a member of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, as Co-Chairman of the Family Life Center Building Committee. Mr. Walters was a member of the Francis Asbury Church School Class of the Church. He had been active in many aspects of the Georgetown Community.
Surviving are: his wife, Lenora Freeman Walters of Georgetown; a son, Samuel A. Walters, Jr. (Jackie) of Georgetown; two granddaughters, Lindsey Downing of Pawleys Island and Laura Emily Walters of Georgetown.
Mr. Walters was predeceased by a sister, Mildred W. Piatt and a brother, Herman J. Walters.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford, the Rev. Steve Wilson, and the Rev. Clint Carter officiated.
Burial, directed by Mayer Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
