Herrick Sutton, 89, Decatur Man, Dies Decatur, April 30 Herrick Sutton, 80, almost a lifelong resident of the Paw Paw and Decatur vicinity died at 5 a.m. today at the home of his son, Jay, after an illness of two week.
Mr. Sutton was born September 23 1852, in Poughkeepse, N.Y., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luman Sutton who came to Van Buren county in 1856.
He operated a farm east of Decatur for 476 years, and for the past seven years resided with his som. He was married in 1881 to Miss Anna Gilman, of Antwerp township. She died in 1916.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist church of Decatur and served as master of the grange for two years. Surviving besides the son are the two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock in the Methodist church, Rev. L.E. Prosser, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery. The remains are at the Newell & Son funeral home. [The News-Palladium, Benton Harbor, MI April 30, 1942 pg 18]
