Jack K. Small, 77, of Chambersburg, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 6, 1935, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Samuel and Roberta Brake Small.

A career U.S. Navy sailor, Jack served for 20 years, retiring in 1975 as a Chief Petty Officer.

During his Naval career, Jack worked aboard nuclear submarines. After retiring, he went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot for five years before he entered the restaurant business as owner and operator of Jack's Café in Greencastle until he retired in 1992. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed sports, especially watching the Steelers play.

Surviving is his
wife of 38 years, Helen Small, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1974;
his children,
Dena Kuksuk and husband, Michael, of Illinois,
Michelle Small of Arizona,
Kellie Cooper and husband, David, of Chambersburg, and
Jamie D. Bowers and wife, Debbi, of Chambersburg;
eight grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren, and
two siblings,
Samuel Small Jr. of Chambersburg and
James Small of Shippensburg.

In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his
sister, Bernadine Edwards.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, where the Rev. John Baer and Pastor John Davis will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599, VFW Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202; or to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
