MRS. HOLMES DIES.

Death Claims a Well Known Pioneer
Knights Valley Lady.

Last Sunday evening death invaded one of the best-known pioneer families of Sonoma county when Mrs. Elvira E. Holmes passed from this earth to the long sleep of death. She was the widow of the late Calvin H. Holmes, who was one of the most active and prominent men of this section of the state during his life time. His widow was equally well-known and during her long residence in Knights valley made hosts of friends throughout the state, and they will learn of her death with much sorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes came to this state in 1849 and settled in Knights valley where they continued to reside until death overtook them both.
The deceased was known for her many generosities and acts of kindness, and none knew her but to revere her. She was always cheerful and had a kind word for everybody. She is survived by one son, William F Holmes. The other two children, Edward M. Holmes and Mrs. Charles H. Foote preceded her to the grave. Some fifteen grand children survive her.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from her late home and was largely attended. Rev. James Mitchell officiated and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery in Knights valley beside her husband.
She was 73 years, 5 months and 14 days and was a native of Kentucky.
