Shullsburg- John T. Alexander, 78, former fire chief, died Wednesday (Aug. 9, 1972) in a Dubuque, Ia., hospital after a brief illness. He was a lifelong Shulslburg resident and had been employed as a mail carrier. He was the Shullsburg fire chief from 1946 to 168?, and was a past president of the Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fireman's Assn.

Mr. Alexander was a member and past commander of the McCann Richards American Legion Post, and was a member of the St. Matthew's Catholic Church. He was a World War I veteran, and a well known Shullsburg baseball player.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jo, Chicago; a son, Jack, Benton; and a grandchild.

The military funeral will be at 10 am Saturday in the church. Friends may call after tonight at the O'Flahrity Funeral Home, where the rosary will be said at 8 pm Friday.
