JOHN CHESTER MICKELSON, JR., was born July 29, 1951 in Pullman, Washington and died in Richmond Texas on January 17, 2013. John is survived by his wife, Dr. Linda Clark; his two children: John Leslie and Sarah Ashley Mickelson and their mother Marilyn Belsheim; step-children Matt Clark, wife Callie; Justice Clark Triplett and her husband B.J and their children Trey and Parker; grand-dogs Preston Louis, Jake Thomas, and Clover; his mother Dr. Grace Erdahl Mickelson, sister Dr. Judith Mickelson and Dr. Bill Eschenbacher and their sons William, wife Michaela, and Timothy; sister Barbara Jo Mickelson, husband Gary Guthmiller, children Zachary, wife Jennifer, their children Tyler and Lucy, Kara Jo Carr, husband Ryan, their daughters Quillan and Everleigh; sister Becky Shaal, husband John, their children Aaron, wife Megan, Andrea Hutchinson, husband Ryan and son Cole, Adam Shaal, wife Erin, son Mason, his mother-in-law Donna Foreman, brothers-in-law Gordon Foreman and wife Sue and Howard Foreman and wife Alison, his sister-in-law Robin Snitcher and husband Bob. John is preceded in death by his father Dr. John Chester Mickelson and father-in-law Robert W. Foreman.
John received his degree in mechanical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1973 where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and a cadet colonel in ROTC. John entered the U.S. Army upon graduation. In 1978 John became licensed as a professional engineer in Texas. He was also licensed in numerous other states. In his 35 year career as an engineer John was employed by Turner, Collie and Braden, VanSickle, Mickelson and Klein, AECOM, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Houston, and Harris County, Texas. He was a past President of the Houston Engineering & Scientific Society.
Visitation will be at Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home in Sugar Land, TX, 15015 Southwest Freeway at the Williams Trace exit from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 and the service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial is being scheduled at the Houston National Cemetery for the following week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in John's name.
