Melissa Anne Christenson, 38, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

A memorial service and burial will take place in the spring in Luverne.

Melissa Christenson was born in 1974 to Kristi (Sammons) Baker in Luverne. She attended schools in Sioux Falls, S.D., Yuma, Ariz., and graduated from Luverne High School in 1992. After graduation she moved with her family to North Dakota. She lived and worked several years in Lisbon, N.D. She moved to the Coleharbor-Underwood, N.D., area to be closer to her family. There she worked at several businesses including a nursing home, a grocery store and a local café. In early 2007 she suffered a traumatic brain injury and has since lived at several nursing homes, the last being at Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, N.D. The last year she battled cancer.

She enjoyed fishing and camping.

Melissa is survived by her twin sons, Parker and Preston Christenson, Coleharbor; her parents, Pete and Kristi, Baker, Coleharbor; a brother, Damian Christenson, Bismarck, N.D., two nephews, Gabe and Gavin Christenson, Bismarck; a grandmother, LillyAnn Sammons, Luverne; an aunt, Michelle Schreier, Currie; an uncle, Mike (Ronda) Sammons, Round Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Les Sammons, and an uncle, David Sammons.
