Sunny Mom is a very Big Rescue Person
for Our Senior Lhasa Apso, Some with Medical
Problems, some just Old age. She Just Lost
Her Sunny Today.
From an E-mail I just received.

Sunny was the last non rescue doggie I had. I got him 13 1/2 years ago from a local breeder whom I met at my vets. She was there with mom and dad and puppies in tow. Sunny was a rich brown and white and I fell in love. THe brown would turn to light beige - lhasa coat color frequently changes - so he looks white. His breeder was a hobby breeder and only had the single pair of dogs - everyone lived in the house and the pups were well socialized so he was off to a good start and was always a good boy getting on with both the dogs and cats in the house. He taught himself to be my Moms hearing dog and always alerted her when the phone rang or someone came to the door. He was naturally well behaved.

Two years ago he was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called pemphigus that caused lesions on his skin. It took weeks and numerous tests before we finally had a diagnosis and then the challenge was to keep the condition in check. He was on prednisone, as well as several other meds. daily for two years. It did help his skin condition but I think it took a toll on the rest of his body.He lost his eyesight as well which further caused his decline. Sunny eventually lost the spark that was special to him - his wonderful lhasa personality faded more and more. He no longer even barked just the occasional whimper if he got himself stuck somewhere.

So as hard as it was to let go I also feel he is now the vibrant dynamic Sunny that he had been the first 11 plus years of his life. Sunnys soul is now free to soar and his body is once again whole with vigor and sight. So look to the stars tonight cause I am sure my boy has taken his place among them.

And I love this native american prayer for him:

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
