Mamie Coffey

Mamie Elizabeth Clay Coffey, 94, of Lenoir, passed away Tuesday Dec. 20, 2005, at Lenoir Healthcare.

Mrs. Coffey was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Burke County to the late Everett Wilfong "EW" and Lilly Florence Kincaid Clay.

Mrs. Coffey was a member of Gamewell United Methodist Church and Gamewell UMC United Methodist Women.

She is survived by three sons, James Hillard Coffey and his wife, Dorothy, Grayson Wayne Coffey and Royce Claywell Coffey all of Lenoir; two daughters, Mary Ellen Poteat and her husband, Steve, of Valdese and Shirley Elizabeth Haas of Lenoir; a brother, Noah Henry Clay of Lenoir; three sisters, Ruth Clay Moore and Mary Edna Clay Jenkins both of Lenoir and Loyce Clay Winkler of Panama City, Fla.; and five sister-in-laws, Reba Clay of Stafford, Va., Ruth Clay of Charlotte, Willie Mae Jones, Hazel Coffey and Margie Hendrix all of Lenoir; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Avery Grayson Coffey; a sister, Mabel Clay Moore; and two brothers, Marvin and Frederick Clay.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Gamewell United Methodist Church with Revs. Renee Easter and Curtis Sides officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends Thursday at the home of Shirley Haas at 3061 Morganton Blvd. SW, Lenoir, for open hours and on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Littlejohn Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael and Kenneth Haas, Jamie, Tim and Tony Coffey and Grayson Helms.

Memorials may be made to Caldwell County Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir NC 28645.
