Harold Edward Belcher, 89, Kansas City North, passed away January 21, 2013, at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at McGilley Antioch Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Marines Helping Marines in honor of Harold Belcher, 512 Thorton Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Harold was born May 7, 1923, in King City, Mo. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving on a light cruiser, CL48 USS Honolulu in the South Pacific, followed by military intelligence training. He was a recipient of 5 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation. Harold worked for 30 years for Swift Co., in St. Joseph, Mo., and Kansas City, Kan. While at Swift he served as secretary/treasurer and union representative for a number of years. He moved to Kansas City in 1972. Harold also worked for 16 years at the Kansas City, Mo., water plant as a Control Room Operating Engineer before retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Belcher in 1989; parents, Charles and "Birdie" Belcher; brothers, Delbert, Lester and Lee Belcher; and sister, Myrtle Wattenbarger. Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. Belcher of the home; sons, Raymond E. (Nancy) Belcher, St. Joseph, and Robert L. (Cheryl) Belcher, Lee's Summit, Mo.; a step-son, Michael (Brenda) Harter, Richmond, Texas; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Arr.: McGilley Antioch Chapel.
