James was born in Lee County, a son of the late James Nathaniel and Louise Tidwell Beasley. He retired from GTE after 30 years of service; was a veteran of the Vietnam War; and a member of the Woodman of the World.
Surviving are his wife, Farris Farmer Beasley of Bishopville; two daughters, Catherine (Timmy) Brumley of Hartsville and Cissy (Todd) Sylvester of Bishopville; and two grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Brumley of Hartsville.
