Henry Gordon Taft, for 25 years Commissioner of WorcesterCounty, was born in Uxbridge, April 3, 1832. Was educated in the Uxbridge local schools, at the Uxbridge Avademy and the Leicester Academy. While always being interested in farming and engaged in farming pursuits, he was in hardware business in Uxbridge Center from 1872 to 1892. Was Selectman of Uxbridge from 1874 to 1876, and also served the town as Assessor. Was County Commissioner of Worcester County from 1876 to 1903, with the exception of one term and a part of another, and for many years was Chairman of the Board. Was a life-long resident of Uxbridge. except a year in California in 1854, and lived in the home built by his grandfather, Bezaleel, in 1807, which was the home of his father. Bezaleel, Jr., and now the home of his widow and son, District Attorney George S. Taft. He died July 8, 1903.
