Alice was born in Christiana township, Vernon County to Christian and Olga (Jothen) Hollie. She attended the Dahlen School in Timber Coulee, in rural Westby.
On Sept. 17, 1931 she married Orvus Helgerson in Winona, Minnesota. They lived in Westby and and then moved to Viroqua in 1940. They then moved to rural Chaseburg and farmed on Pumpkin Ridge, and in 1946 farmed on Dach Ridge in rural Viroqua. In 1955 they moved to and farmed at Sandhill, rural LaFarge. They moved into LaFarge in 1965. Her husband preceeded her in death on Jan. 12, 1966.

Alice was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Westby, and also a member of the Allen McVey Women's Relief Corps No. 148 of LaFarge, and also active in the Senior Citizens.

She was survived by three sons and two daughters; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister; nieces, nephews; other relatives, and many friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Richard, Harry, Stanley, and Arnold; one sister, Olive Holen; and one granddaughter Brenda.
