Aunt Mary Eliza Smith Dead.
"Aunt" Mary Eliza Smith, colored, wife of the late Pius Smith, died at her home on Walnut Street Monday morning at 2:00 o'clock following a several years illness of heart trouble, superinduced by senility.

Prior to her marriage she was Mary Eliza Spalding, having taken the surname of the family of the late Len Spalding, to whom she belonged during the days of slavery. She was a native of this county, born in 1852, and had spent her entire life in and near Lebanon where she was highly regarded by both white and colored residents.

Surviving her are two daughters and eight sons, as follows: Mary Porter of Chicago, Ill., and Priscilla Hocker of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Rev. Vincent Smith of Lafayette, La., one of the few colored priests in the United States; George and Stanch Smith of Chicago, Ill.; Will Smith of Gary, Ind., and Frank, John, James and Aloysius Smith of this city.

Funeral services will be conducted this morning at St. Augustine's Catholic Church at 9:00 o'clock by the deceased son Rev. Vincent Smith, following which burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery.
