SHERMAN - Services for Gerald "Skip" Hines Sr., 65, of Sherman will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Tuesday at Scoggins Funeral Home. Skip passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at his residence.

Skip was born Nov. 2, 1947 to Gerald and Willia Dean Sturdy Hines, he married Theda Ireland Dec. 11, 1981 in Sherman. Skip served in the United States Navy, was a long time member of the Sherman Jaycees where he received many awards and recommendations. He worked with the mentally challenged and homeless to make a difference in their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife, Theda Hines of Sherman; son and his wife, Gerald Hines, Jr. and Michell of Arlington; daughter, Kimberly Honeycutt of Quinlan; sister and her husband, Debra and Alvin Burks of Corsicana; grandchildren, Madison Hines, Kaitlin Honeycutt, Beth Huneycutt, Emilie Honeycutt and Josh Honeycutt; two nieces, Shanna Nichols of Wills Point, and Samantha Burks of Corsicana; and one nephew, Ray Burks of McKinney.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sherry Ellenberg.
