James "Bert" Craig, a 76-year-old resident of Hatfield, died at the North Kansas City Hospital at 2:31 a.m. on Wednesday Jan. 16, 2013.



Funeral services will be held at p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at the Eagleville Christian Church in Eagleville. Burial will follow the services at the Eagleville Masonic Cemetery.
A scheduled visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the the church.
Mr. Craig was born on April 9, 1936 at Boise, ID, the son of George and Helen Evans Craig. He graduated from North Harrison High School in 1954.
On Aug. 24, 1968 he was married to Karen LaFollette at the Ridgeway Methodist Church.
At a young age, he started his career at the Armco Steel Company in Kansas City. He also coached his sons in Little League baseball for many years. He retired after 37 years as a millwright and then moved to Hatfield. He served on the Harrison County PWSD #2 Board of Directors, Lincoln Township Board, member of the Harrison County Democratic Central Committee, Union Officer of Steelworkers Local #13 and up to his passing he served as the vice president of SOAR.
As a dedicated alumni of North Harrison High School, Bert served up to his passing as the treasurer of the NHHS Alumni Association and was a member of numerous square dance clubs, where up to his passing he was president of Cross Trailers Square Dance Club. He and his wife formed the Two State Steppers Club.
He was affiliated with the Methodist Church at Eagleville.
He is survived by his wife Karen of 44 years, of the home in Hatfield; three daughters, Brenda (Rodney) Stoll of Independence, Sharon (Howard) Spencer of Bonner Springs, KS and Rita (Steve) Schowengerdt of Independence; two sons, John Randal Hallock of Slidell, LA and Richard (Michelle) Hallock of Hatfield; a sister, Dorothy Pitts of Independence; three brothers, Bob (Marion) Craig of Independence, Don (Betty) Craig of Bethany and his twin, George Alan (Donna) Craig of Ridgeway; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rex and Dennis Craig; and three great-granddaughters.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the North Harrison Athletic Association.
