Before she was 2 years old, Rosie's family moved from Liberty Twp., PA to nearby Thurmont, MD. The details are not known, but sometime between 1895 and 1903 her parents were divorced, which was rather unusual for the time. After their father left, she and her younger brother Glenn lived with the family of her uncle Leonard Flohr. They were listed as members of his household in 1900 and 1910. Their mother remarried and raised only the children from her second marriage. Their father James can not be found on the 1900 or 1910 census.

In 1910 Rosa was married to Russell in Miami, OH where he worked as a paper mill laborer. Russell and Rosa moved back to Thurmont, MD before their first son was born in 1916 and were found living there in 1920 where he worked as a plumber for the railroad. By 1930 they had moved back to Miami, OH and Russell again worked in the paper mill industry. The family remained in Ohio for the rest of their lives.
