He was called "Dave."

Born in Missouri to Squire Willard and Talitha Rockholt.

David married 1st to Rachel Bateman, Dec. 10, 1869 in Christian Co, MO (near Springfield). They had 4 children:
1. Sarah Jane (m John Sutton)
2. Mary Elizabeth (Bessie, m Albert Gardner)
3. Amos James (m Cora Hacker)
4. Robert, b 1876.
Robert died at birth and Rachel died 3 days later. She was 28.

After Rachel died Dave moved to Kansas, leaving his 3 small children with their Bateman grandmother. After he found a good farm he went back to MO to get his children. His mother-in-law, Mary C. Bateman, went with them in a covered wagon to Kansas. She lived with them for a few years until Dave remarried, then she went back to MO.

Nov 14, 1880 Dave married Laura Benton in Pratt Co, Ks. They had children:

7. Francis M.R. (m Essie Rader)
8. William Henry (m Julia Hacker)
9. Squire B.(m Eva Signor), he died in France in 1918.
10. Charles W., d 1916, age 26

13. Frances Estella (m George Pennington)
14. Richard Willard, b/d Sept 20, 1899

Laura died in 1901 and David married her sister Fannie Benton, Apr 4, 1904.

When David died in 1927 he was survived by only 2 of his 4 children from his 1st marriage and only 5 of the 10 children from his 2nd marriage.

Daniel David Willard passes at farm home northeast of Iuka this morning.
Daniel David Willard died this morning about 4:30 o'clock at his farm home, northeast of Iuka, where he had lived for the past 50 years. He was 79 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the Eden Valley church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.E. Keisling, pastor of the Free Methodist church at Kingman, who will be assisted by Rev. G. Ray Phillippi, pastor of the Eden Valley church. Interment will be at Friendship cemetery. The Sappington-Calbeck mortuary is in charge.
Mr. Willard's death was a result of a recent stroke. He had not been well for several years and his condition was considered serious for several days. Coming to Pratt county as a young man, Mr. Willard took a homestead northeast of Iuka, in Carmi township, and had lived on the same farm for a half century.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie Willard, and seven children, including: Mrs. A. Gardner, Stafford county; Amos Willard, Iuka township; Rev. Francis Willard, Pratt; Dennis and Fred Willard, both of Preston; and Mrs. George Pennington, of Preston. He leaves one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Squire Willard, of Seattle, and a son-in-law, John Sutton, of Liberal. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren."
