Mrs. J. A. Phillips Passes Suddenly
Funeral services for Mrs. Permelia Elizabeth Phillips were held from the First Christian church at 2:30 o'clock this Thursday afternoon with Rev. D. C. Loucks officiating. Burial was in Wynooche cemetery. Mrs. Phillips died suddenly Monday morning.
She had been a resident of Montesano for 20 years and of Grays Harbor county for 42 years. She was born in Chariton, Iowa, March 2, 1852. With her parents she moved to Kansas in 1870 and was married there to J. A. Phillips in 1876. In 1883 they moved to Washington, settling first at Johns River in the western part of Grays Harbor county. In 1905 they moved to Montesano where they have since lived.
Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, John J., Charles D., Margie, Bert and Lester L., of whom only Charles D., who lives at Western, survives her. She is also survived by her husband, two brothers, D. D. and D. A. Watson of Markham, and one sister, Mrs. A. W. Fry of Elma, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Bert Phillips was called home from the State Normal school at Ellensburg because of the death of his grandmother, Mrs. J. A. Phillips.
