United States Navy, Lieutenant Commander
Killed at United States torpedo station, on Goat Island, Narragansett Bay, Newport by the premature explosion of a torpedo. Appointed from New York State acting Midshipman at the Naval Academy, September 28th, 1861 and graduated in 1865. He served with the European Squadron from 1865 to 1868, with the South Atlantic Squadron from 1869-1872, at the Asiatic Station 1873-1875, at Hydrographic office 1875-1876. Married Grace W. Fletcher. Father of Elizabeth and Grace F. Edes.
