Musician. Born Nicola James Capaldi in Evesham, England, he was a drummer, songwriter and a founding member the group ‘Traffic'. Early in 1967, the band was formed with the original line up of Capaldi, Chris Wood, Steve Winwood and Dave Mason. Signed to Island Records, they released their first single "Paper Sun" wrote Capaldi, followed by the successful album, "Mr. Fantasy" which included the hit song "Dear Mr. Fantasy". Although the next Traffic albums were successful, Capaldi began to develop his solo career releasing several albums to include "Oh How We Danced" (1972), "Short Cut Draw Blood" (1974) and "Fierce Blood" (1982), which included the Billboard Top 40 hit "That's Love". In his later years, he continued to perform and write songs, receiving the BMI/Ascap Award five times for "Most played compositions in America". He remained professionally active until his illness prevented him from working on plans for a 2005 reunion tour of Traffic. He with ‘Traffic' was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
