SHULLSBURG, Wis. - Howard E. Mullen, 78, 4079 County Road I, Shullsburg, died Nov. 28, 1998, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church, Shullsburg, with the Rev. David Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Furlong Funeral Home, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mr. Mullen spent most of his life farming in the Diggings area.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1920, in New Diggings, son of Clyde C. and Eulalia A. (Tippett) Mullen. He married Beryle J. Genthe on Sept. 27, 1947, in Galena, Ill.
He graduated from the New Diggings High School in 1938, then attended Platteville State Teachers College for one year.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Shullsburg school board for 24 years and secretary and treasurer of the fire protection district in Shullsburg for 25 years.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Donna) Mullen, of Cuba City and David Mullen, of Shullsburg; a daughter, Kay (Bob) Martin, of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Jaclyn Mullen and Nathan and Kalli Martin; a brother, Clyde (Jenalda) Mullen, of Mineral Point; and a sister, Rena (Dale) Amacher, of Fort Atkinson;
He was preceded in death by his parents;
He will be greatly missed and was dearly loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. A special thanks to Dr. John Viner and the nurses on 3 Medical at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.)
