William Connelly, son of J. J. Connelly, and 23 years of age, died in France, Jan. 22nd, last, of pneumonia fever, according to a message received by the family in Murphysboro today. Young Connelly was called into the service June 6, 1918. He landed in England on Nov. 9 and the last news that had been received from him was a few days prior to Christmas.

Before entering the service he was the top man at No. 10 mine at Murphysboro. His place at the mine was filed by Ralph Gill, a prominent young man, who was later killed in an accident at the mine.

Young Connelly was a member of the Elks lodge of Murphysboro and his death makes the first fatal casualty of any of their members who were in the service. Connelly was an exceedingly popular young man in Murphysboro.
