Floyd Gatewood Chivers , our wonderful father and "granddaddy", passed away May 17, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Floyd was born September 28, 1921 to William Floyd and Linnie Jeffries Chivers in Pettus, Arkansas and grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was stationed at Camp Kearns, Utah, where he met the love of his life, Vilda Parker. They were married January 24, 1946, and together raised seven adoring children.
The official cause of death was listed as congestive heart failure, but it could truly be said that Floyd died of a broken heart. He was devastated by the untimely death of Vilda , his sweetheart and wife of 49 years, who passed away in November 1995. Since the time of her passing, he desired nothing more than to be with her. Although both are sorely missed, comfort is taken in the knowledge that they are reunited in the arms of God.
Floyd was a man of impeccable character - unpretentious, sincere and honest to a fault. Kind and unselfish, he would help anyone in need without a thought of repayment. His endearing sense of humor will ever be remembered by all who knew him. Floyd was a man "after God's own heart" and a Christian in the truest sense of the word. One could not ask for a finer father or truer friend.
Floyd is survived by five daughters and two sons, Linda (Harold) Franke, Marla (Greg) Wall, Lorie (Gary) Bishop, Jeff (Lori) Chivers , of Salt Lake City; Gayle (Luke) Myers, of Crawfordville, Florida; Julie Chivers Patten, of Orem; and Todd (Gloria) Chivers , of Lomoc, Calif.; three brothers, Dan (Minnie) Chivers , and Lilburn (Delilah) Chivers , of Lonoke, Arkansas; Bob (Lola) Chivers , Lehi; 31 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe, his wife, Vilda , two grandchildren and one son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23 at 12 noon at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, where friends may call one hour prior to the funeral or Wednesday May 22, 6-8 p.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
