Wayne M. "Possum" Bishop, 81, of Kennesaw, passed away January 19, 2013. Funeral services were held at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Acworth, with Rev. Scotty Davis and Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Interment followed at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta.

Mr. Bishop was a lifetime resident of Marietta and graduated from Marietta High School where he was a star athlete. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from the City of Marietta Fire Department. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Acworth, and a member of the Kennesaw Mountain Shrine Club. Wayne loved to garden, hunt, and fish. These were all favorite pastimes. He was a lover of life and people and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his daughter Cynthia Fletcher of Acworth; grandchildren Lauren Fletcher and Stephen Fletcher both of Acworth; sisters Donna Jean Baxter of Marietta and Faye Reid of Carnesville, Georgia; brother-in-law H.R. Snyder and sister in-law, Margaret Wiggington of Canton; several nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Dorothy Nell Bishop; his mother Nell Kathleen Bentley Frey Bishop; his father William Morris Bishop; brothers William Moultrie Frey and Robert Frey; and his sister Nell Kathleen Frey Collins Speer.
