Jerry L. Burch, 64, of Connersville, died Sunday morning, October 24, 2010, in the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health System.

He was a native of Franklin County, born July 2, 1946, the only child of Doyle and Ruth Wilson Burch, both of whom preceded him in death. Jerry attended elementary school in Metamora and Brookville High School. In March of 1966, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Chukawan and later, the USS Vulcan. His tours of duty included the Mediterranean and the coast of Africa as well as assisting in the recovery of the Apollo space capsule. For 39 years, he was employed as a superintendent at Visteon and its predecessors. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He especially loved his dog, Zoey and cruising in his 1975 Corvette. Jerry liked to ride his motorcycle and was a fan of NASCAR and motor sports. Since retiring, he enjoyed the beach while spending winters in Venice, Florida.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Sue Johnson, whom he married June 4, 1966 in Franklin County; two children: Julie A. Judd and her husband, Randy of Connersville, Jay Burch of Venice, Florida; five grandchildren: Clayton, Colin and Clara Judd of Connersville, Hannele and Sebastian Burch of Helsinki, Finland; Aunts and Uncles: Mildred Burch of Connersville, Virginia Fox of Rushville, Kenneth and Bea Brock, Beulah Witt, all of Bright, David and Claudette Begley of Greensburg, Dora Wilson, Lillie Wilson, both of Laurel; several well-loved nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law: Annedia Jarvis Maillho of Carmel, Sandra Johnson of Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Laurel North Cemetery with military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Humane Society.
