Death of James Frazier

The subject of this sketch, an aged and well and favorably known citizen of this vicinity, died on Tuesday morning October 2, 1888, at his residence, one mile north east of St. Clairsville, from the infirmities of age. He was born November 30, 1809, near Roney's Point, in what is now Ohio County, West Virginia, but for the most part has been a resident of Belmont County, Ohio.

He was first married, March 23, 1837, to Jane Giffen, and to them were born five children, four of whom survive him: Mrs D.T. Atkinson, of West Alexander, Pennsylvania: Mrs John DuBois, of Bellaire, Ohio; Mrs William Y. Taggart, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Rev. Samuel R. Frazier of Youngstown, Ohio. His first wife died on May 7, 1847, while he resided on Wheeling Creek, on what is now the John H. Denham farm, near Barton Station on the C.L. & W.R.R.

He was again married, Novemeber 28, 1848, to Mary J. Orr, who survives him, together with five children: Miss Mary C. Frazier; Mrs John B. McMechan; Rev. James R. Frazier, of Davenport, New York; J. Ham Frazier, of Kinsley, Kansas; and William M. Frazier, who, with his sister, first named, resides at the house of mourning.

Mr Frazier was the seventh of twelve children, only two of whom survive him: Samuel Frazier, aged 88 years, of near Zanesville, and his sister Rosanna, older than the deceased, residing near Mt. Vernon, Ohio. In early life he connected himselff with the organization then known as the "Dissenting Presbytery" or "McCoyites" which afterward became part and parcel of what is now known as the United Presbyterian church, and until the day of his death was a consistent and faithful member of the church of his choice. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning at ten o'clock at the family residence, the Rev. Thos. Balph D.D. officiating. Internment in the St. Clairsville Union Cemetery.
