David W. Jay, a son of Tyra and Catherine [Fisher] Jay, served in Company C, South Carolina 7th Infantry Regiment. He enlisted in March 1861 as a Private and rose to the rank of Corporal.

In 1868, David Jay married Miss Mary Frances Bradley; whose father was Capt. Patrick Henry Bradley, who formed a company of volunteers from his neighborhood around Cedar Springs & Long Cane that became Co. C, Seventh South Carolina Regiment when it entered state service on 15 April 1861.
