Father of Ruth Gordon Jones aka Ruth Gordon.

Clinton was the son of John J. and Olive Rogers Jones. His father was a native of Steuben County, NY and his mother was a native of Orleans, Massachusetts. His father was the son of John Jones and his mother was the daughter of Timothy and Reliance Cobb Rogers. His parents married on August 31, 1856 in Boston, MA and relocated to Colchester, CT where Clinton was born in 1857. The family returned to Boston where his mother passed away from phthsis on October 12, 1861.

Clinton was first placed in the home of Prince Rogers. By 1880, he was residing the household of his maternal uncle, Albert Cobb Rogers in Boston, MA. His occupation was
listed as Seaman. He married Harriet Louisa Holden on September 8, 1885 in Boston.. Harriet was the daughter of Albert Pierce Holden and Julia Gage Trufant Holden and was
born in Dorchester, MA.

Clinton and Harriet were the parents of two daughters, Claire Louisa Jones (b. June 20, 1886) and Harriet H. Jones (b. October 12, 1891). Sadly, Clinton's wife Harriet passed
away from puerperal eclampsia on October 20, 1891. Their daughter, Harriet, succumbed to convulsions on August 11, 1892.

He next married Annie Tapley Zeigler on October 16, 1895 in Boston. Annie was a native of Bainbridge, GA and the daughter of Jacob and Ada Beale Zeigler. Clinton, Annie and Claire moved to Quincy, MA where Clinton took employment as a factory foreman. The couple's only child, Ruth Gordon Jones, was born there on October 30, 1896. Clinton truly missed the sea and chafed under the daily grind of the factory, but he loved his family more and perservered.

Ruth Gordon Jones later took the professional name of Ruth Gordon. She was known, not only as an actress of stage and screen, but as a playwright and screenwriter. Her play, Years Ago, was an autobiographical tale of her upbringing and longing to be an actress. It was later made into the movie, The Actress, starring Spencer Tracy and Jean Simmons. Her father's character had a central role in both productions.

Clinton's wife, Annie, passed away in Milton, MA on December 31, 1915. Clinton Jones passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1934. His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean. The sailor had, at last, returned to the sea.
