Ferdinand Amos arrived in the U.S. on July 27, 1847 aboard the Ship Westminster with his brother, three sisters and parents, Barbara and Jacob. Jacob died in 1849 in Detroit.
The family first lived on a farm in Toledo and worked in exchange for food, board and clothing. After Jacob died, Barbara moved to Detroit and married Frank Renner a downtown barber. Ferdinand went on to become a postmaster of Detroit Junction and and Alderman of the 16th ward in Detroit. hen Ferdinand died Mayor and later Governor Hazen Pingree as one of his pall bearers. A Michigan Supreme court justice gave his eulogy. Ferdinand owned and ran and lived in the Amos House formerly the Pacific House (hotel) at the corner of Junction and MCRR in Detroit. MCRR (Michigan Central Railroad)
I have reason to presume that Ferdinand was murdered by poisoning by those opposed to his plan for railroad track property taxation. Notably the MCRR. Information on ferdinand can be found in the Detroit newspaper archives and at the Downtown Detroit Library historical society.
