A celebration of Sarah's life will be held at 1 P.M., Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery.

Sarah Luella Wiese was born on October 30, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Albert and Madeline (Batey) Wiese. She grew up in Maquoketa and attended Maquoketa Schools. She married Dale Manning on September 8, 1956 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2009.

Prior to her marriage, Sarah had worked as an aide for a Maquoketa nursing home. She then became a homemaker and farmed with her husband moving to the Tipton/Rochester, Iowa area in the early 1960's until relocating to Monmouth in 1984.

Sarah's career in life was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and protector of all animals, big and small. She had cared for many animals nursing them back from ill health. She enjoyed cooking and baking over the years, was an avid gardener, and loved visiting with family and friends. Her greatest hobby and gift to so many was her crocheting ability. She was a master with a crochet hook and pleased not only her family with her gifts, but many of her new friends at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center where she had been a resident since November of 2011.

Those left to honor Sarah's memory include her daughters, Betty (Norman) Ellerhoff of Tipton, IA, Brenda Connell of Burlington, IA, and Marilyn "Kitty" Hoffman of West Branch, IA; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie (Dan) Walterman, Adam (Michele) Ellerhoff, Amber (Seth) Talbot, Tami Peters, Taryn (Matt) McGuire, Scott Peters, Kelsey Hoffman; 4 Great-Grandchildren, Austin and Abby Ellerhoff, and Aislyn and Colin McGuire; brothers, Richard (Becky) Wiese of Andrew, IA, and Charles (Sue) Wiese of Oxford Junction, IA; sisters, Janet DeLarm of Oxford Junction, IA, Edna (Ron) Edwards of Maquoketa, IA, and Cindy (Paul) Heim of Onslow, IA; and a sister-in-law, Jean Edler of Tipton, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, 1 sister, a daughter, Sarah Ann, and a son-in-law, Brian Hoffman.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Sarah L. Manning memorial fund has been established.
