OBITUARY: Josephine Borup Romlin (1890-1939)
Mrs. Eric Romlin of near Four Corners, Trade Lake township, passed away at the local hospital at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning after having suffered the past one and one-half years with cancer of the throat [her death certificate also listed leukemia].
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Tamarack church, 1 mile west and 2 miles south of Atlas, with Rev. H.P. Walker of Grantsburg officiating. Interment will be made in that cemetery.
Besides her husband she is survived by five brothers and three sisters. They are Bill Borup of Fort Francis, Canada; Albert Borup of International Falls, Minnesota; Chris and Olof Borup of Wolf Creek; Mary Swanson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Louise Weeks, state of Washington; Mrs. John Ramstad of Minneapolis; and Charley Borup of Duluth, MN.
Mrs. Romlin was a member of the Cushing Royal Neighbors of America Lodge and took an active interest in the Ladies Aid of the Tamarack Norwegian Lutheran Church.

"Only God can make a tree," and such a beautiful tree he made and placed on the Tamarack church grounds in Laketown.
It was under this lovely tree, last Saturday afternoon, that one of the biggest funerals ever held at that church was held. That of our beloved departed friend, Mrs. Eric Romlin.
Josie was a woman who was ever ready to help. Her helping hand carried her into hundreds of homes and won her friends galore.
The testimony of their friendship was proven in the large display of beautiful flowers and by the large attendance.
The little church was far inadequate in size to accommodate the size of the crowd assembled; and the intense heat of the afternoon made the outdoor funeral almost a necessity--but what a lovely setting for the last rites of one who has lived her entire life among the beautiful trees and in the wide open spaces of the country. Birds chirped their second to all of the lovely old hymns rendered.
Josie is going to be missed by everyone who knew her. Things just aren't going to seem right without seeing Josie there in the group as we used to.
But sad as this seems, we could not but wish that her great suffering from her dread disease could soon be ended, as her last hours were a terrible struggle.
Death came at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, August 15, 1939. We have had her, we have loved her; but we haven't lost her--she has only gone on before. Somewhere there is another meeting place.

Josephine Amelia Borup Romlin was born in Sterling township, Polk county, Wisconsin on April 24, 1890 and passed away at the Community Hospital of Grantsburg, August 15, 1939, at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 22 days.
She was baptized in the Laketown Lutheran Church by Rev. O.O. Risvold and at the age of 15 was confirmed by the same pastor.
On November 13, 1917, she was united in marriage to Eric S. Romlin and to this union was born one son Merton, who passed away at the age of 16 months.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn 5 brothers and 3 sisters: William of Fort Francis, Canada; Albert of International Falls, MN; Charles of Duluth, MN; Mrs. Mary Swanson of Minneapolis, MN; Mrs. Louise Weeks of Spokane, WA; Sena (Mrs. John Ramstad) of Minneapolis, MN; Christian of Sterling, and Olof of Laketown, WI.
