Zelma G. Barnes 76, of Willmar, died on Sunday October 28, 2012, at Rice Memorial Hospital.

Her memorial service will be 11:00 am Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Bethesda Heritage Chapel. Friends may call from 10:30 until the time of service at Bethesda Heritage. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Zelma Grace Barnes was born on January 30,1936, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Zelma (Bruning) Hartman.

She grew up in the Chicago area graduating from Fenger High School in 1950.

Zelma received Salvation Army Training and later attended Moody Bible Institute. She lived in several communities serving as a Captain in the Salvation Army, before moving to Willmar in 1957.

On December 28, 1964, Zelma was united in marriage to Richard Barnes at Chicago, Illinois. This union was blessed with two children. Following their marriage, they live a short time in Willmar prior to moving to the St. Cloud and Rice communities. In 1991, they moved to Spicer where they lived until 1996, when they moved back to Willmar.

Zelma worked as a security guard at the Sartell Paper Mill; prior to being the manager at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Willmar and most recently was the office manager for Rejoice Ministries.

Her family recalls Zelma's gift as a musician; playing the piano, organ, accordion and mandolin. She loved to make people happy and her home was always open to all. She was extremely organized and when they would travel, Zelma would give each of her family an itinerary of the trip. She loved to crochet, making many Afghans for her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; children, Roger (and Mary) Barnes of Willmar and Cynthia (and Jeff) Andeen of St. Cloud; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are her siblings, Joyce Schoning of Manteno, IL; Paul (and Sue) Hartman of Chicago, IL; and Carol (and Rick) Koenig of Franklin, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert.
