James Cary "Caro" Brooks

Mr. James Cary "Caro" Brooks, age 79, of 1700 Old Cedartown Road S.E., Lindale, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in a local hospital.

Mr. Brooks was born in Lindale on July 16, 1933, son of the late Albert Brooks and the late Lillian Melton Brooks. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Byron Brooks. He was a farmer by trade, a trade he enjoyed to its fullest. Mr. Brooks was an active member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church where he previously served as a Trustee and on numerous committees. He was also very active in the sports activities of Rome where he played baseball in the Textile League. He served as a basketball referee for 28 years. He was an umpire for both baseball and softball games and coached in the Twig League and Little League. Mr. Brooks was an avid golfer and enjoyed sports as a whole. His participation will be deeply missed, yet his influence, wisdom, and training will impact players for years to come.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Faye Murdock Brooks, Lindale; a daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Upshaw, and her husband, Lee, Lindale; two brothers, John Brooks, and his wife, Gerald, Lindale, Jackie Brooks, and his wife, Glenda, Rome; two sisters, Ms. Lynda Ragan, Lindale, and Ms. Ann Brandon, Silver Creek; special friends, Tommy Jones, Gordon Miller, Bill Dupre, Mike Barron, Dr. Mike Ware, and Ms. Kay Chumbler; nieces, nephews, and many other friends and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 3:00pm at the Second Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1:00pm until the funeral hour. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Friday at 2:30pm and include: Jeff Brooks, Brad Ragan, Tim Brandon, Todd Brandon, Mark Bell, Tim Hesser, Chris Buffington, and Victor Lopez.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his memory to the Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 E. 2nd Ave., S.W., Rome, GA 30161.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
