William McCann a well know Mexico resident died November 10, 1928 at his home at the age of 80 years. Born in Oswego NY March 3 1948 the son of the late John McCann and Susan Mullen McCann, at the age of sixteen he enlisted in the union army on March 15 1864 in Battery H New York Light Artillery under Com. Minch. He participated in many battles:
Wilderness May 5-7 1864 , Spottsylvania, North Ann, Sotspotnay, Petersburg, Weldon Raid, Poplar Grove Church, Hatches Run, Hicksford Raid, WHite Oak Ride, Five forks, Fall of Petersburg, he was with General Grant at the fall of Lee's Army. He was taken sick with Typhoid fever, returned to his regiment and was mustered out June 18 1865, honorably discharged. After the War he moved to Mexico and became a butcher. He was an active member of Melzar Richards post until it was disbanded. He leaves a widow Mrs Delia Buck McCann. Interment in Mexico Village Cemetery.
