Robert E. "Bob" Smith, 66, died April 20 at Alfalfa County Hospital. His funeral was at 2 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery directed by Goodwin Funeral Home.
He was born June 21, 1921, in Spearman, Texas, where he grew up and attended school. After attending school, he was employed in oilfield construction in west Texas and New Mexico.
He married Juanita Corder in June, 1958, in Mexico. They moved to Cherokee in April, 1970, working for Coppock Construction. In 1977 he went to work for Caruthers Construction, working there at the time of his death. Bowling was his hobby. He attended the First Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife Juanita; three daughters, Carylene Cartwright and Paula Crockett, both of Gainesville, Texas, and Marylene Arrington, Hot Springs, Arkansas; a step daughter, Wanda Gray of Jet; two sons, Robert A. and Eddie Wayne; three brothers, Bill of Gurber, Texas, Jack of Perryton, Texas, and Allen of Amarillo, Texas; two step brothers, Dee Murphy of Bakersfield, California, and Pat Murphy of Perryton; a sister, Mary Glassey of Perryton; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Alfalfa County Hospital with the funeral home in charge of funds.
